UNESCO Chair in Applied Research for Prison Education Cégep Marie-Victorin was invited by the Study Group on Education in Prison (GÉSEC) to participate in the “ninth meeting of Latin American educators and theses on education in prison” in Argentina, the city of La Plata, Province of Buenos Aires, on 5 and 6 October 2012. This meeting highlighted the 10th anniversary of the GÉSEC.

Many researchers, practitioners, teachers and representatives of advocacy organizations for the right to education have discussed the general topic of education in prison. In fact, more than 400 participants attended the presentations and participated in various sessions and workshops on the right to education, the educational practices in prison, challenges and future prospects for education in prison for Latin America.

The team of the UNESCO Chair in Applied Research GÉSEC thank very warmly GÉSEC and its representatives for the invitation to participate in this historic event. These thanks are addressed specifically to Ms. Florencia Perez Lalli, president of GÉSEC, and Mr. Francisco Scarfo, vice president of GÉSEC and scientific committee member of the UNESCO Chair in Applied Research for prison education. The first contact between the countries and organizations represented at the meeting and the director of operations of the UNESCO Chair in Applied Research for prison education has developed new initiatives to support education in prison.

We invite you to monitor the websites of the UNESCO Chair in Applied Research for Prison Education and GESEC to take cognizance of the related conferences and suites of the Congress.
