From November 21st<\/sup> to the 23rd<\/sup>, 2012, CEGEP Marie-Victorin hosted a Chinese delegation in the context of a training program promoting partnerships between colleges in the province of Shandong (China) and those in Quebec. The delegation also visited three other CEGEP partners in this project: Vanier, John Abbot and Andr\u00e9-Laurendeau<\/p>\n

During their stay, CEGEP Marie-Victorin\u2019s UNESCO Chair in applied research for education in prison presented\u00a0to\u00a0these visitors a communication on college education in the prison environment.\u00a0\u00a0Through its achievements and its unique expertise developed in partnership with the Correctional Service of Canada and the Ministry of Education, Recreation and Sport\u00a0in the province of Quebec for\u00a0the past 40 years, CEGEP Marie-Victorin\u00a0is a leader in education\u00a0in\u00a0prison and\u00a0this has been recognized through the granting of a UNESCO chair in 2010.\u00a0The CEGEP mandated Mr. Jean-Pierre Simoneau for this occasion.<\/p>\n

The delegation was able to learn more about the CEGEP\u2019s educational experience in prison and in the community, as regards the development of professional skills and citizens. It also discovered the four axes of the Chair, which are: applied research, a documentation centre, the creation of a community of international interest, and its contribution to improving services and training in addition to raising the awareness of decision-makers as to the advantages of education in prison.<\/p>\n
