On January 22nd, 2013, the department of Techniques d\u2019intervention en d\u00e9linquance of the C\u00e9gep de la Gasp\u00e9sie et des \u00celes<\/a> invited the C\u00e9gep Marie-Victorin\u2019s UNESCO chair in Applied Research for Education in Prison to deliver a communication on \u201cEducation in prison\u201d in the context of an \u201cexchange-meeting\u201d held at its Carleton-sur-Mer campus.<\/p>\n

Over sixty participants from various support groups were able to share during this meeting. To name a few: Andr\u00e9 McKibben, Program Director at the CSSS du Rocher-Perc\u00e9, Suzanne Bourget, Regional Director of Gasp\u00e9sie\/\u00celes-de-la-Madeleine, Serge Vall\u00e9e, Deputy Director at the CRC L\u2019arc-en-soi, Nathalie Motreff, General Director of Justice Alternative, Philippe Beaubien, teacher at the New Carlisle detention facility, as well as students and teachers from the Techniques d\u2019intervention en d\u00e9linquance, Techniques sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9es en services correctionnels and Techniques d\u2019\u00e9ducation sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9e programs, people involved with young offenders and workers and representatives from halfway house organizations, alternative measures, etc.<\/p>\n

(2) Nathalie Blais, Coordinator of the Techniques d\u2019intervention en d\u00e9linquance department (TID). (3) Josianne Landry-Allard, teacher in Law courses. (4) Sophie L\u00e9vesque, teacher in courses related to psycho sociology. (5) Catherine Th\u00e9riault, Education Consultant and representative at the Carrefour de la r\u00e9ussite.<\/p><\/div>\n

The morning was dedicated to the presentation of the \u201cL’\u00c9ducation, une rencontre vers la libert\u00e9<\/a>\u201d documentary, the teaching experience at the C\u00e9gep Marie-Victorin over the past forty years and the community support program for on-parole offenders (PRET 2000). And finally, the mission, objectives and activities of the UNESCO chair in Applied Research for Education in Prison completed the presentation. The afternoon was reserved for a plenary including all participants, where they shared each other\u2019s realities with regards to the penal system, social reintegration and the importance of education for men and women offenders.<\/p>\n
