This project is supported by the\u00a0Minist\u00e8re des Relations internationales, de la Francophonie et du Commerce ext\u00e9rieur of Quebec\u00a0and the\u00a0Minist\u00e8re des Affaires \u00e9trang\u00e8res de la R\u00e9publique fran\u00e7aise (General Consulate of France in Quebec) as part of the 64th session of the Commission permanente de coop\u00e9ration franco-qu\u00e9b\u00e9coise. It is supervised by the\u00a0Minist\u00e8re de l’\u00c9ducation, du Loisir et du Sport\u00a0\u00a0of Quebec. It follows on the exploratory mission in Suresnes and Lille in March 2012 by Sonia Bradette, coordinator of educational services in provincial prisons. This mission was also funded by the Minist\u00e8re des Relations internationales\u00a0of Quebec.<\/p>\n

This project\u00a0seeks to provide teachers teaching materials for education in prison for a\u00a0less educated customers as major constraints are present in conventional equipment. Indeed, in detention facilities, students have little or no access to new information technologies (eg. internet). The purpose of the project is to provide teachers with a digital common environment where the sharing of expertise will be preferred,\u00a0whilst\u00a0giving priority to the French language. In addition, it will allow teachers to\u00a0dynamize their practices as well as pass this expertise to the newly appointed in this workplace.<\/p>\n

Impact of proposed project:<\/p>\n

– Enhance and boost the professionalism of teachers by providing a training in the use of digital resources and a space for exchange of practices and professionals\u00a0tools\u00a0dedicated to education in prison.<\/p>\n

– Promote\u00a0significant school learning achievement\u00a0among the inmate (adapted equipment) to enable successful reintegration.<\/p>\n

– Allow the inmate to maintain and enhance their level of competence by providing adequate resources to meet the requirements of the curriculum.<\/p>\n

– Develop appropriate act of the adult in a variety of situations of life by promoting autonomy in the proper exercise of social roles.<\/p>\n

– Removing barriers to school accessibiliy and persistence.<\/p>\n

Jacqueline Comeau, coordinator of educational services in federal prisons, Commission scolaire\u00a0de la Seigneurie-des-Mille-Iles.<\/p>\n

Mrs.\u00a0Bradette and Mrs. Comeau will\u00a0participate in a working session in spring 2014 in the Lille region.<\/p>\n

Daniel Beauvais, studies engineer, INS HEA in Suresnes. Project coordinator for France.<\/p>\n

Philippe Scholasch, deputy headmaster of the Interregional Educational Unit of\u00a0Lille\u00a0– School Prison.<\/p>\n

Mr. Beauvais and\u00a0Mr. Scholasch will participate in a work session in October 2013 in Montreal and the Laurentians.<\/p>\n

The UNESCO Chair in Applied Research for\u00a0Education in Prison of the C\u00e9gep Marie-Victorin will take part in a meeting with the partners\u00a0during the\u00a0autumn 2013 in Montreal.<\/p>\n
